You may have heard the term FODMAP bouncing around the nutritional stratosphere for a while now, but what is a FODMAP anyways? Excellent question.
Last spring I went on a trip to New York with one of my best girlfriends who happens to suffer from a slew of digestive maladies. She’s not celiac, but has a hell of a time digesting wheat. She loves cheese, but can’t have lactose. And a lot of the usual gluten-free options, like things based with chickpeas or corn, just don’t work for her. The problem? FODMAPs. After watching her suffer for a couple of days as the result of a gluten-free pizza gone horribly wrong, I got interested in FODMAPs and how a low FODMAP diet can be therapeutic for many folks out there.
