I’m a morning smoothie junkie. If you have it, I will blend it. Lately I’ve been trying to get a bit of extra protein into my diet, and, much like sneaking extra greens in, smoothies are the perfect vehicle.
I’m not really into protein powders. There are definitely some good ones on the market (and a lot that are garbage, read your labels!) but protein powders don’t really fit within my personal nutrition philosophy, which is centred around real, whole foods. Luckily, there are lots of ways you can sneak extra protein into a smoothie without using any protein powder. Start with a protein rich base, then pile in some protein rich mix-ins like nut butters, seeds, and even beans. Yes, beans!
I’m on Oh My Veggies today talking all about how to make a protein smoothie without using protein powder. I’ve got tips for protein rich mix-ins, some protein math to show you how it adds up, and several recipes for your whole foods protein rich smoothie inspiration. Hope on over to Oh My Veggies and check it out!
